creating hope through education

Education is the way out of generational poverty.

Helping a child to get an education is to ignite hope; hope for a better life, for a chance to control their own destiny and for a way to nurture the mind and, hopefully, to contribute to the improvement of the world around us. Educating a child is like dropping a pebble in a vast still ocean, creating a ripple. There is no limit to where this ripple will travel and no limit to what it will affect. Not only will the child be changed but it has the potential to change the world.

“One of the great principles of Islam, in all its interpretations, is the elimination of poverty in society, and philanthropy’s centrality in this duty.”

-His Highness the Aga Khan Global Philanthropy Forum, Washington, D.C. April 23, 2009

“If our animosities are born out of fear, then confident generosity is born out of hope. One of the central lessons I have learned after a half century of working in the developing world is that the replacement of fear by hope is probably the single most powerful trampoline of progress.”

-His Highness the Aga Khan Tutzing Evangelical Academy Upon Receiving the “Tolerance” Award, Germany May 20, 2006
